He made the pledge from an election rally organised by the Jatiya Oikya Front in Tangail on Saturday.
“On December 30, come to the polling station and vote. I promise Khaleda Zia will be released on December 31 or she will be released from jail on the first day of the New Year,” said Siddique, also the president of Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Janata League.
Khaleda, chairperson of the BNP, has been in prison since February this year since her sentencing in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. She was also convicted in the Zia Charitable Trust case.
“Your vote can end the autocratic rule and restore democracy,” said Siddique,
whose candidacy was scrapped by the Election Commission for loan defaults.
Speaking at the rally, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President ASM Abdur Rab, who also participated in the election, urged people to vote for the paddy sheaf to ensure Khaleda's release.
