Dr Lyudmila Sarder, MD, a highly respected internal medicine resident physician, has been honoured with the prestigious United States Congressional Recognition for her outstanding contributions to healthcare and community service in Central Florida.

Dr Lyudmila Sarder was among 10 distinguished community leaders recognized by US Congressman Darren Soto (FL-09) during a special Women’s History Month ceremony.

The honourees, representing healthcare, business, engineering, and military service, were acknowledged for their dedication to improving lives in their communities.

Their names and achievements will now be permanently recorded in the United States Congressional Record, a historic recognition of their contributions.“Your life stories are part of our shared American history,” Congressman Soto remarked during the award ceremony on Tuesday.

Dr Lyudmila Sarder serves as a resident physician at Lakeland Regional Health and has dedicated her career to enhancing healthcare access, particularly for underserved populations.

Through her work at HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, AdventHealth Cancer Institute, Winter Haven Hospital, and Lakeland Regional Health, she has gained national recognition for her contributions to medical research and patient care.

Her efforts in reducing financial barriers to cancer treatment have brought hope to countless families, helping shape a more equitable healthcare system.Beyond her clinical expertise, Dr Sarder is a passionate health advocate, leading initiatives to expand healthcare access for uninsured and at-risk communities.

She volunteers her time at the Osceola Cancer Center and Kissimmee Women’s Health Centre, ensuring vital medical care reaches those in need.She is also the co-author of the Amazon bestselling book, “Intern Mastery: A Roadmap from Med School to PGY-1 Internal Medicine Excellence”, a guide for medical students transitioning into residency.

Additionally, she is a member of the American College of Physicians (ACP) and serves as a judge for ACP student presentations.Dr Lyudmila Sarder actively supports public health and wellness, volunteering as a physician at major marathons, including the Hollis Cancer Centre Promise Run and Disney Marathons.

She plays a key role in medical education, mentoring students and shaping academic curricula.Despite her demanding career, Dr Sarder is also a devoted wife and mother of two, balancing her professional and personal life with grace and determination.

“I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition from the United States Congress,” Dr Sarder said. “This award is not just about me — it represents the dedication of so many who work tirelessly in public service. Dr Lyudmila Sarder has earned numerous academic and professional credentials from prestigious institutions, including Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Stanford University School of Medicine.

Notably, Dr Lyudmila Sarder, while an American, has strong family ties to a distinguished Bangladeshi family with a legacy in public service and diplomacy. She is the wife of Zahid FSarder Saddi, a former foreign adviser to the former prime minister of Bangladesh Begum Khaleda Zia.

Her recognition by the United States Congress not only honours her individual contributions to healthcare but also reflects the impact of Americans with Bangladeshi heritage who continue to make a difference on the global stage.
