Quader’s condition improving but not stable: BSMMU physicians

BD Online Desk: Physicians at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Sunday said that road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader’s health condition was improving slightly but his condition was not stable.

‘We’re optimistic about the recovery of Obaidul Quader but he’s not out of danger. It’s a matter of time,’ said BSMMU cardiology department chairman Syed Ali Ahsan while at a press briefing at the BSMMU in the afternoon.

‘Quader is blinking his eyes and trying to talk to others. If his condition remains stable, we’ll go for a bypass surgery. He’s now in critical condition,’ said Syed Ali Ahsan at the briefing.

BSMMU vice chancellor Dr Kanak Kanti Barua said, ‘Quader is responding to others.’

Replying to a question, Dr Kanak Kanti, said, ‘Prime minister Sheikh Hasina told them that the ailing minister would be taken abroad for better treatment with the consent of the physicians.’

Asked about the arrival of a Singapore medical team, the BSMMU VC said, ‘It’ll be monitored by the PM’s Office. We’ll allow Quader to take him to Singapore if we see there is adequate manpower and expertise in the team.’

BSMMU director Brigadier Geneneral Abdullah Al Harun and some other physicians of the hospital were present at the press briefing.

Earlier, president Abdul Hamid and PM Sheikh Hasina visited the ailing minister at BSMMU.

Obaidul Quader, also general secretary of Awami League, was admitted to the CCU of BSMMU on Sunday morning following his breathing complications.

Doctors found three blockages in his coronary artery following an angiogram, said BSMMU cardiology department chairman Syed Ali Ahsan.
