Preparations on to take Khaleda Zia abroad

Preparations are going on in full swing to take BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to London for her advanced treatment. Her family members and physicians have been taking this preparation. Khaleda Zia's machine readable passport (MRP) has already been handed over to her after renewal in the first week of August.

Khaleda Zia's medical board's members said Khaleda Zia is being taken to abroad for advanced treatment according to the decision of her medical board. Her next treatment process will start in London.

Khaleda Zia's personal physician Dr AZM Zahid Hossain told media, "Madam's (Khaleda Zia) physical condition is somewhat stable now compared to the past. We are trying to take her abroad for advanced treatment."

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital on July 7 last after her physical condition was deteriorated. She then returned to her Gulshan residence in the evening of August 21. Earlier, she returned to her Gulshan residence after staying at the hospital for 156 days.

Khaleda Zia developed various types of physical complications after she was went to prison being convicted in a corruption case in 2018. Then she was allowed to stay at home on special consideration. The 78-year-old former prime minister has long been suffering from arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney and liver complications. She has already taken treatment at a hospital several times.

Despite repeated requests to allow Khaleda Zia go abroad for advanced treatment, the previous Awami League government's ministers --Anisul Huq and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal -- didn't give permission to Khaleda Zia's family to leave the country for treatment.

In such a situation, Khaleda Zia's family brought three specialist physicians from the United States on October 27, 2023 at the Evercare Hospital in Dhaka who conducted surgical procedures in her blood vessels.
