Teachers' demand to cancel 'Prattay Scheme' illogical: Finance Minister

Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali has commented that the movement of university teachers demanding cancellation of universal pension scheme is unreasonable.

The minister said it after a courtesy meeting with Yangming Yong, Vice President of South, Central and West Asia of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), at the Finance Minister's office in the Ministry of Planning on Tuesday (July 2).

He said that he could not find any reason for the movement of the teachers on the 'Prattay Scheme'. The minister also said that the Asian Development Bank is helping more than expected.

Meanwhile, a deadlock has been created at Dhaka University for the second day due to the all-out strike by the teachers, officers and employees of the university (DU) demanding cancellation of the 'Prattay Scheme'. As a result, students who came to do academic work have suffered.

On Tuesday afternoon, all academic activities including class-exams were closed at Dhaka University. The situation was the same in the administrative building. The doors of some rooms were open but the activities were closed. As a result, students who came to pick up marksheets, certificates etc. for urgent work have suffered.
