The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has asked all concerned across the country not to shift any dengue patient to hospitals in the Dhaka city from outside the capital for treatment.
It also warned against stockpiling injectable salines unethically. The civil surgeons will conduct raids at district level against such unscrupulous business.
"We have directed them to ensure treatment to critical patients to save lives at local hospitals. Every public hospital, including upazila health complexes, has adequate arrangements to manage dengue patients," said Prof Dr Ahmedul Kabir, Additional Director General (Planning and Development) of the DGHS at a press briefing held at the DGHS conference room in the capital on Sunday.
The directive was given at an online meeting on Sunday with all civil surgeons, upazila health and family welfare officers and other health officials working at different parts of the country.
Prof Dr Ahmedul Kabir said wasting time by transporting critical dengue patients to Dhaka is a futile exercise.
"This puts the life of patients at risk," he added.
He also said there is no shortage of normal injectable salines in the country."But some dishonest traders are trying to create a fake crisis. We have instructed the civil surgeons to take actions against those involved in the malpractice," Prof Dr Kabir said.
Responding to a question, he said the government has fixed the fees of all types of dengue tests. Civil surgeons have been asked to strengthen vigilance so that none can charge patients more than the fixed fees.
