Mocha may turn into a super cyclone

Daily Bangla Times: Cyclonic storm Mocha formed over Southeast Bay and adjoining area is becoming stronger and may turn into a super cyclone. The wind speed can rise to 221kph.

After reviewing various weather reports of the USA, Mostafa Kamal Palash, a weather and climate researcher at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, in his facebook, made the prediction.

He also predicted a tidal surge of 15/20 feet from the normal tide in Cox’s Bazar and 10/12 feet in Noakhali and Chattogram.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) in a special bulletin said the cyclonic storm ‘MOCHA’ over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining area is moving northwards and it intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the same area.

It was centered at 6am today about 1095 kms south southwest of Chattogram port, 1025 kms south-southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 1055 kms south southwest of Mongla port and 1020 kms south-southwest of Payra port, said the latest bulletin.

It is likely to intensify further and move in a north-northeasterly direction, it added. Sea will remain very high near the storm center.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal no two.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
