Former Awami League MP Arju in jail in rape case

Daily Bangla Times: Former Awami League Member of Parliament (MP) of Pabna-2 Constituency Khandkar Azizul Haque Arju has been sent to jail in a rape case.

On Wednesday (February 22), Arju surrendered in the court of Judge Begum Samchunnahar of Dhaka's Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal-5 and applied for bail. After the hearing, the court rejected the bail application and ordered to send him to jail.

On January 16, the same court took into account the report given by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and issued an arrest warrant against him.

A trainee lawyer filed the case in court on April 22 last year. The tribunal accepted the statement of the plaintiff and ordered the PBI to investigate the allegations. After the investigation, Inspector of Dhaka Metropolitan North PBI Sabbir Mohammad Salim filed a report in the tribunal on January 5 that the allegations were proved.

According to the complaint, the first husband divorced the plaintiff in December 2000. At that time he was working in a pharmaceutical company and living almost alone at home. Then her relatives pressured her to remarry. At one point in late 2001, the plaintiff met the defendant through his uncle. Later the defendant kept in regular contact with the plaintiff and tried to attract it and eventually succeeded. The accused told him that his first wife had died. Plaintiff wants to start a new family to end social dependence and loneliness. She falls in love with the accused and responds to his marriage proposal. They got married on 10 December 2003.

A daughter was born to them on 16 January 2008. After the child was conceived, the accused tried to destroy the child through various tricks. But, the plaintiff could not destroy the child for persistence. A change in the behavior of the accused can be observed after the birth of the child. Defendant reduced visits to plaintiff's home. He had already bought a flat in the plaintiff's name after selling it to the defendant with 10 lakh taka and a deposit of 8 lakh taka and gold ornaments weighing 15 lakhs from his father, but he did not buy any flat. He did not return the money. At one point, the defendant stopped coming to the plaintiff's house. Later, it was found that the wife of the first party of the accused is alive. There is a daughter in that house and the accused lives with his wife. It is also known that the accused introduced himself as Farooq Hossain to the plaintiff but his real name is Khandkar Azizul Haque Arzu. Cheating is done in the name of marriage to have sexual relations. Thereafter the accused attacked the plaintiff several times with the intention of killing himself and hired terrorists. At one stage the accused directly denied marriage with the plaintiff and the child of her.

The DNA test of the plaintiff's daughter was conducted in the investigation of the case. There reports surfaced that the daughter was conceived by the plaintiff and the father of the defendant.
