The restriction would come into effect at 6:00pm today and continue till 6:00 pm on Monday, said DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia at a press briefing held at Shahbagh Police Station in the city on Saturday.

No vehicle without valid pass would be allowed during the time, he said, adding that teachers, students and staff of Dhaka University must carry their valid ID cards.
To impose the restrictions, police check-posts would be set up at seven entry points of the campus, Asaduzzaman said.
He further said that patients of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital must move via Bakshibazar and Chankharpool.

Members of police and RAB will be on the election duty, he said, adding that all the voting centres in the DUCSU elections would be brought under CCTV camera surveillance.
In the polls, 21 candidates are vying for the position of vice-president, 14 for general secretary and 13 for the assistant general secretary.

According to hall sources, 25 polling centres have been set up at Jagannath Hall, 30 at Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall and Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, 35 at Salimullah Muslim Hall, Surya Sen Hall and Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall, 22 at Zahurul Haq Hall and Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, 50 at Ruqayyah Hall, 20 at Kabi Jasimuddin Hall and Amar Ekushey Hall, 16 at AF Rahman Hall, 24 at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, 19 at Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall, 45 at Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall and 40 at Bijoy Ekattar Hall.
There will be no polling agents from candidates. House tutors and staff of respective dormitories will act as polling agents.

However, the authorities would allow agents from candidates during ballot counting.
On Saturday noon, activists of Progressive Student’s Alliance and other student organisations chased away activists of Jatiya Chhatra Samaj, student wing of former autocrat Ershad-led Jatiya Party, when they tried to enter into Madhu’s canteen ahead of the polls.

Mamun Fakir, who will contest the DUCSU poll for general secretary post from Chhatra Samaj-backed panel, claimed five of their activists were injured during the chase.
The DUCSU polls did not take place in 28 years because of indifference of the successive university administrations and governments.

This practice breached express provisions of Articles 4 and 20 of the Dhaka University Order 1973, the petitioners argued.
