BNP expels 16 more local leaders for contesting UZ polls


BD Online Desk : Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Wednesday expelled 16 of its local leaders for taking part in upazila parishad elections, began on March 10, defying the party decision.

The party on Wednesday expelled sixteen leaders of Narail, Rangpur, Chandpur, Moulvibazar, Kishoreganj and Chapainawabganj, said a BNP press release signed by its assistant office secretary Taiful Islam Tipu.

The total number expelled local leaders stood at 125 since the expulsion spree began on February 26.

Those were expelled on Wednesday including vice-president of Narail district unit vice-president Ashok Kumar Kundu, assistant organising secretary Saleha Begum, Lohagara upazila unit general secretary Asaduzzaman, organising secretary of Pirgachha of Rangpur unit Shah Md Farhad Hossain, Chandpur district Mohila Dal assistant secretary Rebeka Sultana, Chapainawabganj district BNP vice-president Babor Ali Biswas were expelled from all posts of BNP, said the release. BNP boycotted the upazila parishad polls under the incumbent Election Commission and the present government.

The fifth phase of upazila parishad polls that begun on March 10 would complete in five phases. The second phase is scheduled for March 18, the third phase for March 24, the fourth phase for March 31 and the fifth phase scheduled for June 18.
