BNP rolls out 19-point polls manifesto


BD Correspondent: Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday announced election manifesto for December 30 general election pledging formation of a national commission for introducing a political culture against politics of vengeance and revenge.

The commission would be comprised of leader of house, opposition leader and all respected national personalities.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on behalf of the party’s imprisoned chairperson Khaleda Zia announced the party’s election charter to implement it if voted to power at Lakeshore hotel in Dhaka.

The manifesto included bringing balance of executive power between president and prime minister through necessary amendment to the constitution, making provision for none would hold the post of prime minister for more than two terms consecutively, amending Article 70 of the constitution to ensure freedom of expressing independent opinions of lawmakers on condition, appointment of deputy speaker from the opposition in parliament and introducing upper house in parliament.

The charter pledged to provide unemployed allowance to educated unemployed, providing job in government services to two lakh people in first three years and generation of one crore new jobs in five years, scrapping digital security act, repeal special power act 1974, control of lower court would be vested in Supreme Court from the hand of the president, and reestablish referendum in constitution and appointing ombudsman.

Although the election manifesto of the Jatiya Oikya Front, which the BNP parts, pledges to continue trial of  war criminals, there is no such pledge in the BNP's manifesto.

Leaders of different political parties and professionals were present.
