Supporters lock BNP office demanding Milon’s nomination

BD Correspondent: The supporters of jailed Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Ehsanul Haque Milon staged protest on Saturday in front of BNP central office at Nayapaltan, demanding his nomination for Chandpur 1 constituency for the 11th general elections.

The protesters locked down the BNP office’s main gate for about one-and-half hour and chanted slogans for the nomination of Milon, a former state minister for education, and now the party’s international affairs secretary.

Milon, who is facing more than two dozens of cases, was arrested on November 23, and sent to jail by a Chandpur court.

BNP announce its executive committee member Mosharraf Hossain its candidate for Chandpur 1 constituency (Kachua).

Witnesses said, the local leaders of BNP, Juba Dal and Chhatra Dal began staging demonstration at about 12:45pm.

They held banners and festoons supporting Milon and chanted slogans for his nomination.

The protesters locked down the BNP office at one point of protest.

The protesters alleged that Milon was dedicated leader and he suffered during the Awami League government’s tenure, but he was deprived of nomination.

‘BNP should recognise his contribution and sufferings for the party and nominate him for the Chandpur 1 constituency,’ said Kachaua upazial BNP secretary Khairul Islam.

The protesting leaders and activists said Mosharraf is an expatriate in Malaysia and he has no connection with the local activists.

The protesters opened the gate at about 2:15pm, issuing 12-hour ultimatum to top BNP leaders for Milon’s nomination.
