BUET students boycott classes as Abrar murder accused attends class

BUET students boycott classes as Abrar murder accused attends class


The students Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) boycotted classes and staged demonstration on the campus on Wednesday as Ashikul Islam Bitu, one of the accused in the Abrar Fahad murder case, attended a class.

The agitated students said they will continue their demonstration until their demand is meet. They boycotted the classes from Wednesday morning.

They also staged sit-in programme in front of the university vice-chancellor’s office from 10am holding placards which read ‘No class sharing with a murderer’, ‘Permanent suspension of Bitu from campus demanded’. 

A four-member team, later met VC. The students, however, said they will elaborate their demand and decision at a press conference later.

Ashikul Islam Bitu was earlier expelled from the BUET as he was accused in Abrar Fahad killing.

Earlier on May 22, 2021, Bitu attended an online class of the chemical engineering department. Following the students protested, he did not attend classes again till Sunday.

But, when he joined another class with the 17th batch of the chemical engineering department on Sunday, general students again protested it.

Abrar, a second-year student of the electrical and electronic engineering department, died after he was beaten allegedly by some Chhatra League men at the Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university in the early hours of October 7, 2019.
