BD Correspondent: Rejecting the results of the national election, Jatiya Oikya Front Sunday demanded reelection under a nonparty caretaker government.Dr Kamal Hossain, the convener of the opposition alliance, made the demand while speaking at a press conference at his Bailey Road residence after a meeting of Oikya Front leaders.

He said the news of ‘vote robbery’ in a similar fashion reached them from almost all the constituencies. “As a result, over 100 candidates of different parties boycotted the election,” he said.

“Under the circumstances, we urge the Election Commission to immediately cancel the election of mockery. We reject the so-called results and demand a fresh election under a nonparty caretaker government,” Dr Kamal added.

Asked what they may do if the Election Commission does not accept their demand, Dr Kamal said their alliance leaders will work out their next course of action at a meeting on Monday. “Our ongoing movement for giving democracy an institutional shape will continue. “We’ll let you know elaborately about it Monday.”

Replying to a question what will be their position if some candidates of their alliance come out of successful in the election, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “We’re turning down the entire election. This is not an election as it’s a cruel mockery with democracy.”

He said their steering committee will work out their future course of action on Monday. “Today (Sunday) we’re only giving our immediate reaction to the election.”

Responding to another question, Fakhrul said the 11th national election has proved that BNP’s decision of boycotting the 2014 polls was right. “There’s no mistake in 2014.”

The BNP leader said this election has also manifested that fair election is in no way possible under a partisan government.

Apart from Kamal and Fakhrul, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rob) president ASM Abdur Rob, Gonoshasthya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, Gano Forum executive president Subrata Chowdhury and general secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu were, among others, present at the meeting.
