Spanish police detain 79 in anti-child pornography operation

International Desk: Spanish National police have detained 79 people in a wide-ranging operation against the production and distribution of child pornography.

The National Police confirmed on Saturday that the operation saw 80 raids carried out in 13 of Spain's 17 autonomous communities. These raids led to the seizure of 45 laptop computers, 113 external hard-drives, 25 mobile phones, 38 USB drives and over 300 DVD's in which "extreme images involving minors" were found.

In their press communique, the Police explained that the arrests were the fruit of an operation which began in November 2016 and that one of the detainees is a 57-year-old man who was arrested for continued sexual aggression against a three-year-old child and for producing pornographic images involving children from 2010 until 2013.

The police said this man was in contact with a Peruvian woman who was responsible for producing pornographic images of her 11-year-old daughter and four-year-old niece in her homeland and sending it to Spain.

Law enforcement agents reported that they were able to detect money transfers between the two which coincided with the production of the images.

In the press communique the police informed that they have sent all of their information to the Division for the Investigation of High Technology Crimes in Peru, so this part of the investigation can be continued.

Another of those arrested is a 27-year-old man who lives in Madrid and worked with children and used his job to produce and distribute images with content for pedophiles. Police discovered over 2,000 images of minors while searching this man's home.

The operation also led to the discovery of 97 wraps of hashish, 120 grams of the drug MDMA, 100 grams of designer drugs, a revolver, a large amount of ammunition of distinct caliber, smoke bombs, two large knives and a silencer.
