Seriously injured BCL leader Anwar Hossain Nayeem on Sunday narrated to the mass media how mercilessly he was beaten up by Ramna Division's additional police commissioner (ADC) Harun-Ar-Rashid and other policemen inside Shahbag Police Station on Saturday night.Nayeem is undergoing treatment at a hospital in the city.

Nayeem said, "I and Shahidullah Hall BCL general secretary Sharif Ahmed Munim were going through Shahbagh. At that time, we noticed President's assistant personal secretary (APS) Azizul Huq [who was our area's senior] standing in front of BIRDEM Hospital. He said he had an altercation with ADC Harun of the third floor of BIRDEM Hospital over previous issues. After some time, ADC Harun called in our senior Azizul Huq and Sharif Ahmed Munim to Shahbag Police Station. Being worried, I went to the police station after a while. Instantly, ADC Harun and his police force swooped on me. They beat me up inside the OC's room for up to 10/15 minutes. My frontal teeth broke up when Harun hit my mouth with his pistol butt."

He also demanded punishment of ADC Harun. Nayeem friends said four teeth of the upper jaw of the BCL leader were broken from the roots due to the beating of ADC Harun and other policemen inside the Shahbag Police Station. Besides, three more teeth were affected.

Earlier on Sunday night, BCL central organising secretary and Dhaka University's Fazlul Huq Hall general secretary Anwar Hossain Nayeem and Shahidullah Hall BCL general secretary Sharif Ahmed Munim were beaten up mercilessly inside Shahbag Police Station. Receiving information, BCL leaders and Dhaka University's proctor went to Shahbag Police Station and rescued them from there. Later, they were admitted to a hospital.

Police sources and witnesses said a female police official who is also an additional deputy police commissioner (ADC), belonging to the BCS 33rd batch, went BIRDEM Hospital for treatment. ADC Harun, who is belonging to the BCS 31st batch, also went there. They talked on the third floor of the hospital. President's APS Azizul Huq, who is also the husband of the female police official, called in two BCL leaders there. They involved in an intense altercation inside the hospital. Then Harun called in police force and took two BCL leaders to the room of inspector (Inquiry) at Shahbag Police Station where he had beaten them up mercilessly. Ten to 15 policemen also had beaten up them. Then the DUN proctor and BCL leaders went to the police station concerned and rescued them.

Contacted, Shahbag Police Station OC Noor Mohammad said, "I was not at the police station last night. However, I heard later on that the incident took place inside the room of inspector (Inquiry)."

Following the incident, BCL central president and general secretary went to inquire about the two injured BCL leaders.
