War crimes convict Delwar Hossain Sayedee was admitted to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in Bangladesh capital Dhaka Sunday night after he had complained chest pain at the unit-1 of Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur.
Sayedee, also a Jamaat-e-Islami leader, fell sick in the afternoon and was immediately rushed to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur by an ambulance of the jail authorities, officials in the jail and the hospital said.
He was later was sent to BSSMU for better treatment, they said.Kashimpur jail superintendent Shahjahan Ahmed told New Age at about 11:00pm said that they sent the prisoner to a local hospital and then shifted him to Dhaka where he was admitted to BSMMU.
Jamaat spokesman Matiur Rahman Akand said that they came to know that Sayedee was taken to a hospital in Dhaka.
According to jail authorities, Sayedee has been imprisoned in Kashimpur Central Jail Part-1 in Gazipur after being convicted in a case of crimes against humanity he committed in 1971.
On February 17, 2018, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court reduced the death sentence for the Jamaat leader to imprisonment until death in the war crimes case.
He was arrested on June 29, 2010, on charges of hurting religious sentiments.On August 2, 2010, he was shown arrested in a case of crimes against humanity.
