Dreadful monster attacking BNP leaders, workers constantly: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that a dreadful monster has been attacking them constantly. "This monster has taken away our voting rights. It has deprived of our fundamental rights. It has resorted to forced disappearance of our leaders and workers, they are being murdered and crippled," he said while speaking at an iftar and doa mahfil organised by the Dhaka City South and North BNP at Eskaton Ladies' Club in the capital on Saturday (April 6).

The iftar mahfil was organised in honour of the families of the party leaders and workers who were killed and went missing during the anti-government movement.

Commenting that all the pillars of the state including the judiciary are now on the verge of ruination, Mirza Fakhrul said: "I have seen hundreds of leaders and workers of Dhaka City BNP inside the prison. They have been passing their days inside the prison without committing any crime even during this holy month of Ramadan. Our beloved leader Khaleda Zia is being pushed toward death implicating her in false cases. Cases have been filed against 60 lakh leaders and workers of BNP. Some 37,000 leaders and workers of BNP and its associate bodies were arrested on October 27 and 28. The present authoritarian government wants to remain in power as long as they can. In the past, they tried to do that, but could not succeed. This time they will also not succeed."

Addressing the Dhaka City BNP leaders and workers, the BNP Secretary General laid emphasis on consolidating Dhaka as the 'fortress of movement" in the days to come. In order to achieve this goal, you will have to strengthen the party at the warad level," he said.

The Eid gifts were distributed amon the members of the families of the party leaders and workers who were killed and went missing on behalf of the BNP acting chairman.

With BNP Chairperson's adviser and Dhaka City South convener Abdus Salam in the chair, the iftar mahfil was also addressed by the party's standing committee members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan, and Farhad Halim Doner among others.

Besides, missing BNP leader Chowdhury Alam's son Abu Sadat Chowdhury Imon, slain Parvez Hossain's daughter Rimi, Sajedul Huq's siter Tanjida Islam Tuly and Anwar Hossain's daughter Raisa also spoke at the iftar mahfil.
