A 17-kilometre tailback has been created on the Dhaka-Tangail highway, causing immense sufferings to the homebound passengers. Starting from the east side of the Bangabandhu Bridge, the tailback reached Pungli area of Tangail's Kalihati upazila on Tuesday morning.

Earlier, toll collection remained suspended for five minutes after a double-decker bus broke down near pillar no 22 on the Bangabandhu Bridge on Monday, creating more pressure on the highway.

The pressure of vehicles on the highway kept intensifying with the time. The vehicles also became standstill on the bridge.

Mir Sajedur Rahman, in-charge of Elenga Highway Police Outpost, said vehicular movement went slower as the pressure mounted on the highway.

In addition, the toll collection was halted after a bus broke down on the bridge, he added.
