Citizens' data leaked due to technical glitch


Technical weakness of the web applications of the concerned organisation was the main reason behind the leakage of citizens' data, according to a probe report.

The findings of the report revealed that there was a lack of proper monitoring of the web applications due to limited manpower with proper technical knowledge.

The information was revealed at a review meeting on the report, submitted by the probe committee formed over the leakage of citizens' data, at the ICT Division with State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak in the chair, BSS reports.

ICT Division Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin Digital Security Agency Director General Abu Sayed Md Kamruzzaman and ICT Department Director Md Mostafa Kamal were present at the meeting, among others.

In the report it was recommended taking necessary steps to resolve all the errors subject to receipt of the complete VAPT report of the web application of the relevant organization.

The probe body underscored the need for testing the software architecture of the existing web application by Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Software Quality Testing and Certification Center (SQTC) and BNDA members of BCC.

It recommended increasing the overall technical capacity along with increasing the number of technical team members of the concerned institutions.

The committee also suggested ensuring cyber security by establishing CIRT, SOC and NOC as per guidelines of the Digital Security Agency as the Critical Information Infrastructure (CII).

It recommended reporting any signs of cyber security breach to Digital Security Agency following the CII guidelines.To avert the recurrence of such incident at any office in future, the probe committee suggested preparing any type of system, software or web application following Bangladesh National Digital Architecture (BNDA) guidelines and related standards and guidelines.
