‘Bangabazar Market was marked risky’

Daily Bangla Times: Fire Service and Civil Defence authorities identified the Bangabazar Market as the most vulnerable to risk of fire incidents. In this regard, letters were sent to the market authorities at least 10 times declaring it risky.

Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence Brig Gen Md Main Uddin said this at a briefing at the spot on Tuesday noon.

“We hung banners many times declaring Bangabazar Market and surrounding buildings as dangerous. But those were removed. Traders were running their businesses without paying any heed to letters sent by the fire service”, he said.

Regarding bringing the fire under control, the DG said that it will take some time to bring the fire under control completely. Members of fire service, army, police, BGB RAB are working to control the fire, he said.

Eight fire service men have received burn injuries and among them condition of two staff are very critical, he also said. Around 50 units of Fire Service worked to extinguish the devastation blaze that broke out at the market at about 6:10am.
